The University library and college libraries in the University play a vital role in strengthening academic, research and extension mission of the University, facilitate as source base for creation and dissemination of knowledge. The range of services offered by the library is very useful for the patrons, besides this holding an excellent print collection of books, journals, theses, reports, pamphlets, Library also provides an access to e-books, e-journals and databases in Horticulture, Agriculture and Allied sciences. The Library is the repository of the knowledge of the university, which facilitates the teaching, research and extension programmes. The University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot has therefore given key prominence to the development of the library facilities at the headquarters as well as at the constituent colleges and research campuses. Books, periodicals, theses, reports, maps and encyclopedia relevant to the mandate areas of the university have been stocked in the University Main Library and its constituent colleges, with these initiatives, there is a genuine feeling that the University Library could further enhance its role in serving the needs of its users.

Facilities/Services


  • The library is stacked with text books, reference books, journals, PG theses etc.
  • University main campus Library is kept open from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on all working days except public holidays and from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on Saturdays & from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on Sundays.
  • Library has adopted open access system.
  • Readers can borrow 3 (students) and 5 (faculty) books at a time and keep them for a period of two week.
  • There is a concessional photo copying facility for students, which is kept open during library hours.
  • University Library has adopted open access system and Dewey decimal classification scheme.
  • Catalogue of Theses covering the period from 2010-11 to till date are in electronic form and being updated as and when necessary.

Functions of the Library Committee

  • Formulating the library policies and objectives.
  • Advising the university Librarian in preparation of estimates of budget proposals for libraries of the university.
  • Monitoring the expenditure of the libraries of the university.
  • Reviewing the proceedings received from Assistant Librarians from the constituent colleges.
  • Advising the teaching campus sub-committee in building up a balanced library collection and providing better library service.
  • Advising on the policy of reproducing unique library materials.
  • Advising the university Librarian in planning the overall development of UHS library system comprising of teaching campuses and research stations.

The each constituent college have a separate library sub-committee comprising of Dean as the Chairman, Professors, Associate Professors, and Asst. Professors as members nominated by the concerned Dean on rotation basis and Assistant Librarian, as Member-Secretary.

Functions of the Library Sub-committee

  • Reviewing the consolidated list of books & journals indented by various Heads of the Departments and recommending for procurement / subscription to the Library.
  • Advising in preparation of estimates for budget proposals for the Library.
  • Advising in building up a balanced and functional library collection.
  • Advising on matters related to overall development of the Library
  • Advising in implementation of the recommended decisions of the Library Committee.

OTHER LEARNING CENTRES

Apart from the regular curriculum offered in the various constituent colleges of the university, a number of other formal and informal avenues have been made available to promote further learning of students. These avenues serve as strong centers of research & learning and expanding over the years. Other learning centers at UHS include the Regional Horticulture Research & Extension Centers (RHREC) and Horticulture Research Station (HRS) and KVK. These are aimed at extension activities of the related crops. All RHREC & HRS centers are having need based collection for ready reference
The university has always realized that creating facilities for learning will enthuse the students to learn and excel. Every constituent college is equipped with a library with the latest books and selected journals. The University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot is a member of CeRA Consortium, through this platform all the libraries are acquiring major e-resources related Horticulture and (Agriculture) allied sciences. CeRA has given researchers an unprecedented level and convenience of accessing knowledge from scholarly articles. It enhanced access to journal articles which led to greater productivity, research quality and other outcomes. It began to provide online access to full-text scholarly articles, triggering a revolution in the scholarly communications process.

Recent Developments in Sarvajna Library
  • Libraries at main campus and constituent college campuses are situated in separate premises and well equipped.
  • Separate reference collection is provided with addition 200 books, particularly on SRF/JRF and other Competitive exams.
  • 58 New subject journals being subscribed.
  • Ezproxy server is installed in the main campus Library to make access e–resources through remote at Sub- Campuses and HRS Station.
  • Separate collection of Kannada books pertaining to the Horticulture is provided for students and other visiting farmers.
  • Established Computer lab with 6 computers and connected with high speed internet through NKN to access E-Resources.
  • 50 annual reports were added along with collection of 5000+ books and 100 theses.
  • Regular orientation/training is given to PG and Ph.D. students on use of E-resources.
  • Reprographic, printing and scanning services are provided in the library for benefit of students.
  • Library has been automated using Slim21 software and as well as KOHA
  • Library is Connected with UPS Inverter
  • CCTV surveillance cameras has been installed in Library
