Extension system mainly aims at effective dissemination of technical ‘know–how’ and ‘do-how’ information to various stakeholders of production, processing and marketing of products of horticulture crops. Important activities being taken up under extension include
Identification of potential production areas for of different horticulture crops
Assessing yield gap region between progressive farmers and average farmers of the region.
Developing IFS cropping modules to suit different orchard sizes for mono–crops and intercrop combinations aiming for higher returns.
Suggesting suitable cultivation practices to realize potential yield in different crops
Promoting lead farmers as technology demonstrators and assessing reforming and transfer of technologies
Create a farm advisory team comprising of experienced farmers, extension experts and subject matter specialists.
organizing the exposure visits to progressive farmers.
Organizing training programmes for capacity building and skill development, resource market management, mechanization in cultivation, post harvest processing and preservation and management skills.
Facilitate marketing by organizing buyer - sellers meet interactions
Development of production and demand forecasting models through market led extension
Organizing commodity groups and producers companies, advice the farmers on processing, storage and marketing aspects.
Extension Mandates:
Transfer of technologies generated by the Universities and other R & D organizations to all the stake holders of Horticulture through organizing trainings, demonstrations, seminars, publications, exhibitions, fares, future market forecasts etc., by University Scientists, through print media, mass media, web media, farm visits and practicing e- extension so as to achieve significant growth in horticulture sector.
o Effective transfer of technology and getting feedback from farmers.
o Establish Scientist-Farmer interactions for dissemination of knowledge and technologies
o To bring out the required publications in local languages for the benefit of farmers
o To conduct farmer centered extension and envisage them to form commodity groups and farm producers companies
o Providing feed back to researcher to formulate location specific and need based research programmes
o To conduct result and method demonstration for effective transfer of technology
o To popularize farm mechanization among small and big farmers.
Partnership Approach in Transfer of Technology:
To establish strong and active linkages between various actors in production and market chain, participatory approaches are being followed and the following stakeholders will be involved in the process of participatory extension. University is implementing IFS programme covering 10000 farmers all over in 23 districts.

Training Centre:
The technical staff of Directorate of Extension with the support of scientific faculty of our University organize training programmes of one day, two days or one week duration to the farmers, departmental staff, entrepreneurs, input dealers, employees of private companies, NGO, SHGs etc. The training centre also organizes field days, farmers scientist interactions, and participate in the Krishi Mela organized by other farm Universities and Government and other Agencies. The farmers exposure visits are also undertaken by the training centre of Directorate of Extension.
Udyana Mela:
University organizes "UDYANA MELA" every year as a mega event both at main campus and field days at research stations to showcase latest technologies and products developed for creating awareness among farmers. Udyana Mela encompasses exhibitionof Agri inputs in fabricated and ordinary stalls by private and Government Agencies, Exhibition also involves horticulture show, animal show, instant gardens, live field demonstrations, technical consultancy cell, machinery and equipment exhibition, farmer to farmer interaction, sale counters of planting materials and seeds etc. University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot in collaboration with other line Departments and Financial Institutions is organized the 3rd Mega Horticulture Fair-2014 from 12-15th December, 2014 focussing on a theme “Mechanization for Prosperity’’.
Other Extension Programmes:
The training programmes, participation in Krishi Mela of other farm Universities, Field Days, Scientist-farmer interaction meets, workshops, skilled learning programmes, farmer seminars, farmer exposure visits are some of the important extension activities under taken by the University.
