Horticulture Research Station, Sirsi
This Research Station was functioning as Agricultural Research Station (pepper) Sirsi under University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore from 1965 to Sept, 1986 and from October, 1986 to March, 2009 under University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. Now, this Research Station has been transferred to UHS, Bagalkot since 1st April, 2009.
The station is having 7.10 ha area. The Longitude is 740 50′ E, Latitude is 140 N, elevation is 619 m MSL (2043 ft). The topography is valley at the middle and sloppy hills asides . The soil type is lateritic clay, depth up to 2.5′, pH is 5.5 to 6.2.
Mandate crops are Arecanut, Black pepper, cardamom, cocoa. Minor spice crops are cinnamon, clove, Garcinia and Nutmeg etc.
Objectives:
- Standardization of production technology for Arecanut, Black pepper, Cardamom and Medicinal plants in Arecanut based multistoried cropping system.
- Crop improvement for high yielding varieties, diseases and pest resistance / tolerance in Arecanut, Black pepper and Cardamom.
- Evolving INM for spice and plantation crops.
- Developing IPM for spice and plantation crops.
