The University has established the Directorate of Students Welfare since its inception during 2009. The Directorate is responsible for all co-curricular activities of students like sports, physical health and education, cultural and literary activities, NSS and NCC. It is also responsible for creating and supervising the facilities for comfortable stay of students in the campus including such of the amenities like hostels, canteens, dispensaries, placement cell etc. The directorate is headed by the Dean of Students Welfare who plans and directs programmes of students advisement, counseling, placement and promote discipline among the students.

Student counseling
Freshly admitted students of graduate degree programmes are assigned to the teachers for counseling and guidance, for effective counseling and preventing ragging, with the help of anti ragging committees of the respective colleges. The counselors keep track of their counselees with respect to their academic performance and other co-curricular activities. The progress of the students is informed to their respective parents.
Student Clubs
The Directorate has started student clubs like “Entomology club”, “Oleri club” to encourage the literary and scientific attitude of the students. It is planned to start some more clubs namely Fine Arts club, Cultural club etc. The fees collected towards students Association and Sports will be utilized for these purposes.
Group Insurance Scheme
All the students admitted to B.Sc, M.Sc. and Ph.D (Horti.) were made to subscribe compulsorily for group health insurance scheme in all the constituent colleges. The minimum medical facilities are provided at all the campuses for treatment of common ailments. At present there is one campus doctor available for the students to take care of them during the ill health cases of severe nature are referred to Government hospitals and some local private hospitals recognized by the university.
Financial Assistance to students
The university has been awarding merit, general, free studentship and student aid fund to the eligible students every year. Extra boarding and lodging charges will be provided by the university to the SC/ST students. Other backward categories will get the financial benefits as per the government orders and provisions. Further, the scholarships from outside agencies like ICAR/ ASPEE/Jindal/Shamanoor Shivashankarappa/Rani Channamma/IAT etc. are also being utilized by the students. The zero mess bill concept is introduced in the University for SC/ST students as per the Govt. provision.
Coaching Classes
Regular coaching classes are arranged to train the students for ICAR – Junior and Senior Research fellowships, NET/SET/ARS examinations, civil services examinations like IAS, IPS, IFS and KAS etc. Owing to the intensive coaching our students have been getting ICAR Junior and Senior Fellowships and admissions to various post graduate programmes

Student performance in JRF and SRF is increasing. Our students also got selected for ARS – NET.
Performance in co-curricular activities
The Directorate conducts the intercollegiate sports and games meet as well as intercollegiate youth festival every year mainly to encourage the talents and select the team of students for Inter Agri. University sports meet and youth festival. We are proud to mention that our students have made significant achievements at the Inter Agri. University level also.

Student placement services
There is student counseling and placement cell at the university level. The students are made known by notifying the opportunities at various organizations. The private organizations are approached indicating the availability of graduates and post graduates. All possible help and guidance is extended to the graduating students to stand on their feet. The Career Path Finder–2016, was organized at Marigouda Hall, Lalbagh, Bengaluru on 5th November,2016 for the benefit of the students of UHS and other farmer Universities.
Student Amenities
Students are provided with necessary requirements like hostel, cafeteria, auditorium, library, sports and recreation facilities etc.
Hostels
The university has constructed the boys and girls hostels at all the campuses of the constituent colleges as per the existing students strength of the respective colleges. The functioning of the hostel is governed by the “UHS, Bagalkot hostel regulations” by nominating the wardens from the university administration. There is a requirement for PG hostel and an international student hostel at the university head quarters and two other campuses of the university (Arabhavi & Bengaluru) where PG programmes are running.
Sports and other activities
To encourage the students participation in sports, NSS, NCC, Cultural activities, appropriate weightage is being given for the candidates participating in university level competitions as per regulations governing for admissions and employments in the University. Physical Education for I year, NSS for II year students are compulsory. We have created facilities for sports at various campuses including the grounds, indoor games and sports equipments and still need to be strengthened with modern sports amenities. Since inception, University has been conducting the intercollegiate sports meet and youth festival regularly and our students have participated in Inter Agri University sports meet as well as youth festivals. Similarly, our NSS volunteers have been participating in National Integration camps, pre-republic day camps, NSS national and state level youth festivals besides the regular activities and special camps.
